The Protection of the Endemic Plant of Nisyros: "Campanula nisyria"

Nisyros is a volcanic island of unique beauty that holds in its round embrace many wonders of nature and daily surprises, for both, the local and the visitor.
For the last two years, the "Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation" NPO and the Natural Environment and Climate Change Organization (N.E.C.C.A.), within the framework of their Memorandum of Cooperation between them, have been cooperating in a series of actions for the island, from the organization of the "Dialogues of Nisyros", to programs concerning its biodiversity, which have brought the island of Nisyros to the center of interest.
As the last product of this collaboration, N.E.C.C.A. presents a unique species found only on the island of Nisyros. The excellent presentation of the endemic and rare plant, of unique beauty, called "Campanula nisyria" - which was also the inspiration, together with the volcano, for the Foundation's logo - in the "Red List of Greece". In this list are the species designated as endangered, and the "Campanula nisyria", is in danger from the reckless grazing mainly by goats and sheep of the island, and the possible volcanic activity.
This campaign, which concerns the species of biodiversity in Greek territory that are at risk, started with the presentation of the "Campanula nisyria" which is the first in a series of six (6) presentations, and is done with the projection on digital screens in the Athens Metro Stations, where visitors to the station can be informed and admire it.
