Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation and SPAY created the other end of the “Nisyros Dialogues Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation Trail” on the island of Nisyros

As part of the «Nisyros Dialogues 2024» the Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation and SPAY created the other end of the “Nisyros Dialogues Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation Trail” on Nisyros island.

The Inter-island Trail Networks symbolize the connection of trails, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two organizations, which was signed in 2023 on the initiative of the former President of SPAY, Mayor of Elliniko–Argyroupoli, Mr. Giannis Konstantatos, and the President of the “Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation”, Mr. Panagiotis G. Mihalos.

As part of the «Nisyros Dialogues 2024», the Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation and SPAY organized and carried out an environmental action to clean and maintain the trail that connects the village of Nikia with Avlaki on Nisyros island, thus creating the other end of the “Nisyros Dialogues Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation Trail”.

The action was coordinated and supervised by a specialized team from SPAY, with the participation of volunteer citizens who came to Nisyros to attend this year’s «Nisyros Dialogues».

In this way, the two organizations symbolically connected mount Hymettus with Nisyros island, realizing their common vision for the creation of the Inter-island Trails, a vision that was sealed with the Memorandum of Cooperation during the «Nisyros Dialogues 2023».

It should be noted that on June 14, 2024, on the mountain of Hymettus, the Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation and SPAY presented the “Nisyros Dialogues Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation Trail”. With the presence of government officials, representatives of the Patriarchate, and others, the first section of this trail, 300 meters long (symbolically matching the diameter of the “Stefanos” Crater), was created.

The goal of the Georgios M. Mihalos Foundation and SPAY is to highlight and protect Greek forests, bringing Hymettus closer to Nisyros through a “chain” of trails created on the country’s border islands, thereby contributing to the exchange of best practices and knowledge in the hub of volunteerism and forest protection awareness.
