Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy

Stefanos Gκikas was born in Corfu. He graduated from the Hellenic Naval Academy and he served in the Hellenic Navy for 30 years.

He has a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Monterey, USA, a Master’s in Strategic and Defense Studies and a Master’s in Naval Science and Strategy. 

During his service in the Navy, he participated in numerous missions of high national significance.

He also served in a diplomatic position at the Greek Delegation at NATO HQ in Brussels. He was also the Spokesperson and Director of Information at the Ministry of National Defense for three years.

Ηe resigned from the Hellenic Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral (L.H.) in order to get involved into politics.

During the period 2010-2012 he held the position of Deputy Head of the National Defense Sector in the New Democracy Party.

Since 2015, he is a Member of Parliament representing Corfu with the New Democracy party.

He served as Vice-President of the Standing Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, Secretary of the Standing Committee on Armaments Programs and Contracts, Head of the Parliament’s Delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

In June 2024, he was assigned as Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy.
