A small island, big messages: Panagiotis G. Michalos on Naftemporiki TV

Publication Date: 02 December 2025

In his recent television interview on Naftemporiki TV with Alexia Tasouli, Panagiotis G. Michalos, President and Founder of the “Georgios M. Michalos Foundation” and of the “Nisyros Dialogues – Bridging the East Med”®, offered a clear, composed and strategic perspective on the role of Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean in an era of geopolitical fluidity.

With measured and thoughtful remarks, he highlighted how a small place can acquire genuine political and geostrategic weight when it becomes the center of a serious and structured public dialogue.

The Eastern Mediterranean as a key arena of developments

Mr. Michalos reminded that the Eastern Mediterranean is not a distant or abstract subject, but a region where energy interests, security issues, diplomatic initiatives and new balances of power converge.

In an international environment shaped by wars, energy crises and shifting alliances, Greece, as he emphasized, cannot afford to remain a bystander. On the contrary, it has the tools, the human capital and the geographic footprint to play a meaningful role.

Nisyros and the border islands at the center of the discussion

One of the most characteristic points of his intervention was the way Nisyros and the border islands are transformed into hubs of dialogue and reflection. Through the “Nisyros Dialogues”®—an initiative that has now gained international reach and recognition—a stable framework is created where the following meet:

  • Government & Opposition
  • European Commission and Members of the European Parliament
  • Politicians from foreign Governments and States
  • policy-makers
  • experts in energy and geopolitics
  • academics and technocrats
  • business representatives
  • representatives of international organizations, civil society and Think Tanks

As Mr. Michalos explained, the value of this process does not lie in theory but in practice. The “Dialogues” act as a curated meeting point for distinguished individuals who come to analyze, synthesize, exchange well-documented views and propose policy strategies with real impact for the future of the Eastern Mediterranean and Insularity.

When discourse is substantial, geography changes

Through a series of insightful points, the Founder of the “Georgios M. Michalos Foundation” underlined that the seriousness of public dialogue is not a luxury but a prerequisite for national strategy.

The interview highlighted that Greece can elevate its role if it invests in:

  • evidence-based analysis,
    • partnerships,
    • composure,
    • and institutional tools that operate with continuity and consistency.

And this is exactly what the initiative “Nisyros Dialogues – Bridging the East Med”® serves: a platform for the generation of ideas and policy, starting from a small island but entering the wider international geopolitical conversation.
